Honestly, I am not really sure what the alloy should do in this case.
This looks fishy, though.

OK.. so there is a reason why it works like this.
But that doesn't make it look not-odd, since the signal source (redtorch's head) is actually in the centre.

It would be counter-intuitive to have a special check for redstone torches before making that connection. All its doing is seeing if that part can emit to that side and if it can, it makes a connection.
