stained trees do not grow

i tested this with bonemeal. if you place a single sappling you can bonemeal the sappling into a tree. if i place just one more sappling right next to it the tree does not grow.

this behavior makes it impossible to use these sapplings in a mfr farm. this farm palces all sapplings per default right next to each other.

I'm experiencing the same issue. I have tried to grow them in a Plains biome, waited for several Minecraft days and nothing has happened. I have also tried to encourage growth by using an Extra Utilities Watering Can and bone meal.

Oddly enough, the use of bone meal caused the growth of a ghost tree that, when "chopped down", didn't yield any items and after logging out and back in disappeared entirely. The bone meal got used up anyway.

I can't be sure if this issue arises while using ProjectRed on its own since I have only tried it within the FTB Direwolf20 Pack Version 1.0.16 (which contains ProjectRed version 1.0).

(Thanks for doing a great job in reviving and improving the old mod which we have missed so much!)

This may be another issue. I figure the client and the server do not agree on wether the tree did grow or not. I had this issue before and if I relogged the tree was gone again. If i broke it down the collected wood was gone etc. Maybe this should be a seperate ticket.

What I am refering to is that all vanilla sapplings can grow if there is something right next to them, as long as there is enough space for the wood and leaves. Also wood may replace existing leaves. This allowes vanailla trees to grow right next to each other.

a = air
b = some block
s = sappling
w = wood

aaa awa
bsb ---> bwb

They where changed in the latest version, they may be fixed now.

In the latest version, they will grow if there is a block next to them, and they behave better with bonemeal, but they still will not replace leaves (or "leaf") if they are above the sapling.

Clearing the air directly above a stained sapling will allow bonemeal to work on it, usually in one hit, but if there is anything directly above it, including leaves, it will simply consume all your bonemeal.

I have not yet tested the client/server issue that was present in previous versions.

@Otto42 So you're suggesting leaf blocks should be replaced if a tree wants to grow, @MrTJP it should be a simple fix.

In vanilla a growing tree considers leaf blocks as air. They do not count as blocking and get replaced by wood during growth. Leaf blocks can only replace air blocks during growth. That is if I remember correctly.
