Blink doesn't go downwards

Trying to blink yourself downwards (e.g., from a stair or other perch) moves you horizontally but leaves you at the same Y level.

Um... I can easily imagine there might be a reason for that, but I can't for the life of me (or at least a handy spawnpoint ;-) ) figure out what that would be.
