Hoppers moved by pistons lose items inside

Can reproduce, but not sure how. Hoppers, when pushed with a piston, will lose their items in certain locations but not others. The effect persists after a restart, but can change.
Using:
Forge 14.23.5.2837

A save file is available here. The shown gif takes place at x=-10, z=-200. The rest of the world has a few machines that try to replicate the bug, but they do not reliably show any patterns. Sometimes, this bug disappears for some hoppers and appears in others after modifying nearby redstone affecting the piston. The mod and Forge configuration is the default.
