Nether Compass pointing in wrong direction

The compass is not pointing towards the nether portal that I came through. I've tried every combination of restarting my game and re-entering the nether portal but it just points in one specific direction. Does the compass have to be on me when the portal is created (the first time I go through it)?

I saw there was a similar issue posted in March, but it was never fully resolved. I'll provide more information than that person did. So please don't close this just cause it's a repeated issue.

All of the compass modifications are set to True in the Quark config. I've tried disabling the setting in Redstone++'s config that kills clocks and compasses in the recipe book, but that had no effect.

Minecraft Version: 1.12.2

(I've tried backing out of the chunk/further away from the portal. It still points in the same direction.)

Anything I can do to help? Should I try a clean install and figure out if a specific mod is causing this?

(Also in case anyone saw the old post of this same thing by a different account, that is also my account. I didn't mean to post this using that account)

Have you tried going a considerable distance at right-angles? That is, is it pointing in a fixed direction, or to some other point which might be fairly distant?

I've tried walking a considerable distance away, and looking in different directions. The compass does turn, but it seems to be pointing to a specific location that isn't my nether portal. However, as I haven't reached that location, I don't know if it's actually just pointing in one direction and not to a location.

Should I try following the compass in a new world to see if I can find where it's pointing?

Would be a good idea, and check the coordinates once you get there. It might be pointing to the overworld spawn, or 0,0,0 or something
