When placing a slime into a ceiling, the slime will "die" but continue to jump around. It has the death animation stuck on it, red and slightly angled to the side. It's still collectable with the bucket, and when placed into the ceiling again, it will "die" again and drop more slimeballs.
I was able to get a stack of slimeballs with this from one slime.
