After a couple hours at my AFK fishing farm, I went to sleep through the night, and i never got up. I think what's happening is that the server has me marked as AFK still, despite me running around doing things. I've slept all through the night and it kicks me out in the morning but the next night I still can't sleep despite being the only player online. Resetting my client didn't fix it. Resetting the server hasn't either.

I'm on a multiplayer server running MC 1.12.2, Forge 14.23.0.2552, Quark r1.3-117

The server does not mark you as AFK, your client does, and tells the server to do the flagging. If you leave the server that info is cleared, and if you reset the game it's most definitely cleared. Not sure what's going on here.

It seems to have fixed itself after I was on the server at the same time as someone else again.

And it's broken again. So it doesn't work when i'm alone. Someone logs in, and it works. They log out, and it works. I log out and come back the next day, and it stops working again.

I had this issue as well. It would work for some people, and not for others. I ended up disabling the feature and using the Sleep Vote Plugin for Sponge instead.

Some people it simply would not allow them to pass the night when we hit the correct percentage of required players, and others it would not let them sleep when they were on the server alone.
