Happens with vanilla hoppers and hopper ducts. I just made a simple "chest on top of a hopper, on top of a chute" setup. If this is some other mod interaction's fault, I apologize for bothering you.

Hmm. I note that in my newest game I have exactly such a setup for my trash bin, and it's hasn't given me a problem.

This is specifically due to a combination of CharsetPatches and possibly another mod.

@asiekierka Sorry this took so long. I'm still going to have intermittent access to wifi for a few more days, but I was able to recreate this crash without VanillaFix. Is this what you wanted?
