I think title is self explanatory, but let me tell you why I think this feature is needed.
Currently the best way of obtaining Sandstone is by minning it from under sand. Sand itself is also very useful for a lot of things, including creation of glass, farming specific plants, building traps or mechanisms dependent on it's physics and crafting into Sandstone.
Making Sandstone craftable from sand in more efficient way makes grinding a bit smaller and a bit less tedious.
While at it - maybe also let's add recipe to crush 1 Sandstone Block for 1 Sand Block? That would make building with sandstone very efficient, because now any excess amount of sandstone you can turn into Sandblocks and use it for something else...
Pretty much the same goes for any non-Stone Bricks. Clay Bricks looks great, but to even get a single Brick Block, you have to smelt 4 Bricks. Surely, less gindy when minning clay, but it also cost a lot of fuel to get substantial resources (1 coal to create 2 blocks of Bricks).
In Comparison - to get Stone Bricks, you have to find Stone you can break into Cobblestone, then you put it into furnace and get stone back, and for each 4 blocks of stone you get 4 Stone Brick blocks.
Way more efficient, and if you have Silk Touch, you can skip cooking process and craft your bricks immediately.
Not only that, but Stone have also the benefit of being renewable resource if you decide to create Cobblestone or Stone Generator. Stone also have a lot of other uses in crafting recipes.
If you buff recipes for Brick blocks and Sandstone Blocks, it will encourage a lot of players to use those blocks even more in survival.
