Steps:

1. Put more than 1 carts in the filter recipe with filter item, either tank or cargo;
2. Shift click the crafting result;
3. You would get 2+1 carts if you had 2 carts originally, 3+2+1 carts if you had 3.

Possible solution: fix the handler and the recipe to match vanilla behavior more.
