The Blood moon event in 1.10.2 causes too much server lag

We have an ultra high end processor with 10 players the server came to a crawl of 5 TPS.
Perhaps you could cap the max amount of entities that spawn server wide?
There actually is a world wide entity limit, that increases during a Bloodmoon but it shouldn't be that bad. Did you maybe increase the multiplier in the config file? (You could also decrease it there) If not could you maybe profile the server to make sure that the amount of entities is the problem?
