I've set up a tree farm with a lumberjack and planter, and my rat that's supposed to pick up all the drops just sits wherever I put him. I'm playing on FTB Omnia.

If I give him items he'll run straight over to the chest to drop them off, so I guess the problem is that he won't pick items up.
