Hello, me again. Decided to give your mod another try. I set up a quick config for a modpack to test things out, 1.12.2. And.. again, I get massive lag spikes anytime new chunks are generating. If I disable Realistic Ore Veins, the problem goes away.

Is there any advice you can give me that might help prevent this from happening?

I'm going to include a large portion of my last log file showing the console output of Worldgeneration Profiler, and how Realistic Ore Veins repeatedly froze up chunk generation for 5.5-6 second periods of time, compared to other mods not even using 100ms of time per chunk.

I'm also going to attach my ore_veins.json so you can see exactly what I'm doing. The veins seem to all be spawning, just extremely slow, to the point new chunks don't render in for several minutes despite my game running at 60FPS standing at the border.

Made some changes, got rid of the 1.33 rarity veins and set them to 2 or higher, just in case the decimal was the problem. Seems to have helped, but the chunkgen speed is still unbearable. The changes dropped the chunk generation delay from 5500ms down to 3000ms though.

So I know that this mod, with certain configurations, can absolutely ruin performance. This is just a consequence of what it has to do: In order to generate chunk X, when veins can be 20 chunks long, it has to scan every chunk within a 20x20 area (400 chunks!) for veins that might influence the generation in chunk X (To avoid cascading lag).

That said, there are a couple things I can try and offer:

• curve type veins are much more complex than other types, and as a result I have been noticing they are much less performance friendly. Try switching to sphere or cluster. In this case you have a lot of really common veins, which means the performance effects of curve type veins are much worse than normal.
• Rarity has to be an integer (1.33 gets truncated to 1). If you want "effective 1.33" rarity, use both rarity and count.
• (This doesn't seem to be a problem with your json) Use lower horizontal_size, as it will limit veins to a certain size and thus not require scanning as many chunks as normal.
• Otherwise, the two most influential factors are "how many veins?" (rarity, count, and the number of json entries) and "how big / complex are they?" (horizontal_size, and the complexity of the type).
