Sudden Cutoff of Ores Once Height Limit is Reached

When ore veins hit their max or min height, they suddenly stop generating any ore whatsoever, not continuing the vein to completion. This can lead to ugly, flat cutoffs for veins. If possible, could you allow veins to continue past the max or min height, but not generate centers past there?
I do not want to allow veins to generate outside of the min/max y cutoff. The reason being, they provide a simple "bounding box" around the vein - without it I would have to check every block in a chunk for potential ore spawns, which is a lot more resource intensive than just checking within the specific y range.
However, I can try and tweak vein center generation, so that they try and place themselves better within the min / max y limits based on their vertical_size
value. Hopefully that will resolve this issue.
