Unsure if this is already a feature, but figured I should mention it just in case.

Once a campfire has been burning for a while, it should burn out and turn into a burnt out campfire. In order to get it going again, you must supply some more sticks, wood, and/or charcoal and light it again. The more item you add (up to the amounts needed for the campfire's recipe) the longer it will burn once lit. Only adding the 3 sticks wouldn't burn as long as the 3 logs, nor as long as adding everything. You can add items to top off the burn time by placing them on the fire like you would to cook food (or maybe drop them into the fire?).

Additionally, you cannot just pick up the burnt out campfire and replace it to light it again, you must either re-light it or completely destroy it with a shovel. Campfires start out unlit, and must be lit like how you would light torches. You can also use unlit torches on a campfire to light them.
