Perhaps the Advanced Filtered Block Extender could have an additional crafting recipe, one which would allow upgrading directly from the regular block extender, just combining the recipes for filtered and advanced. If this is added, it should probably allow the user to put the items in both ways. (Gold in corners, or redstone blocks in corners).

Just an idea though.
