skin model getting set to slim despite selecting wide

Issue description
Upon entering the mod, the player model gets set to slim despite using the wide option in the launcher. I try to use the gui option to change it but it doesn't seem to work. Love the mod as a whole tho <3
Steps to reproduce
- install mod
- select wide playermodel in launcher skin selection menu
- launch game
- enter world

7)nothing changes

Okay I kept playing with it and after quite a few regerations it applies steve but if I try to apply vanilla skin it makes it Alex which is not what I had selected in the launcher
