This is a bug that occurs from time to time but not only with RFTools. I've seen it happen with other mods too. No clue what causes it.
I'm having a similar, if not the same crash, when I right click a dialer with a tinker's construct tool in my hand.
I just ran into this crash about thirty minutes ago. My dialing device was working fine until I decided to set it up in combination with buttons on a screen. After that point I haven't been able to access the GUI. As well, I'm not getting a full client crash, just a world/server crash. I'm guessing on one of the attempts a crash report finally generated and it mentioned:
Description: Exception ticking world
java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: Could not get provider type for dimension 6, does not exist
at net.minecraftforge.common.DimensionManager.getProviderType(DimensionManager.java:148)
at net.minecraftforge.common.DimensionManager.shouldLoadSpawn(DimensionManager.java:268)

at net.minecraft.server.MinecraftServer.run(MinecraftServer.java:427)
at net.minecraft.server.MinecraftServer$2.run(MinecraftServer.java:685)
I tried using the probe to debug the issue but that crashes the world as well. Currently, I'm getting ready to back up my world and see what happens if the dimension is deleted altogether.
