What happened?

When I'm in the search tab of the creative menu and I type any of the REI shortcut letters (e.g. R, U, or A) they also do their REI function, often making it impossible to search effectively unless I move my cursor out of the way of any item.
For example, if I open the creative inventory (the cursor is left at the middle of the screen) and I try to search for "crafting table", by the time I type "cr" I am moved out of the search tab and I'm looking at the recipe for whatever item was at the center of the screen as the search was getting filtered.
Another example, if I search for "Anvil" I keep adding to my favorites the block at the center of the screen.
