Another mod that does a similar Ghost effect to this is Dissolution. In their mod, an option to respawn is to make a ghostly pilgrimage to 0,0, and stand there for a moment.

This would allow players who have not yet been to the Nether to respawn, although not at their home/wherever the shrine would be built.
