It would be a nice touch if days lasted long in summer and shorter in winter.

Also nights would be shorter in summer and longer in winter.

Also let it be configurable.

We've had this suggestion in the past, and tried implementing it ourselves, but it had a lot of issues, and I really can't see it happening with how everything works currently.
