If no developer were to offer Forge support for Minecraft version 1.20.2 and above, players would naturally transition to its successor, NeoForge.

By maintaining Forge support, you are actively prolonging its relevance and thus far preventing a full shift to NeoForge. The best way to phase it out is simple:

• Stop providing updates for Forge 1.20.2+
• (If committed enough) Remove existing Forge 1.20.2+ builds

The best time to drop Forge support was when NeoForge emerged.
