Lidless soul urn completely crashes multiplayer server

I placed a soul urn with vacuum upgrade down on my multiplayer server, and as soon as it had an item to vacuum the entire server crashed. The server would start up again fine after, but as soon as that chunk got reloaded, whether by myself spawning in, or others travelling to that chunk, the entire server would crash again.
The only way I could recover the world was to do a "/fill ... air replace soulgems:soul_urn" command before that chunk loaded.

Steps to Reproduce the Problem
- Must be on a multiplayer server, can not reproduce in single player
- Craft soul urn, and vacuum soul urn upgrade
I'm not sure the vacuum upgrade is necessary to reproduce it, but that's what I was doing in game - Remove soul urn lid
- Place soul urn
- Drop any item to be vacuumed
Server crashes before the item even hits the ground.
Also, when trying to reproduce this in single player, I noticed the vacuum physics were a little off and seemed to actually "vacuum" the items towards 0,0,0, rather than the soul urn itself. Much less of an issue than a full server crash, but perhaps related.
EDITed to add:
When generally researching how to resolve the world itself, I found this forum post where I think another mod dev has run into the same issue. There's communication on how they resolved it there, not sure if it's helpful, but sharing the link anyway: https://forums.minecraftforge.net/topic/89136-1144-itickable-crash-on-server-solved/
