Is it possible to have this as on option or Hwyla gui setting as the colours appearing on the drawers completely messes up the style of many builds

I don't get your problem, could you append screenshots and rephrase the sentence?

this is what i mean with the colours changing when you apply upgrades.
instead of the actual drawer colour changing would it be possible to have it as a Hwyla gui setting to shoow which upgrade is applied?

The HWYLA bit should be easy to solve as there is an api for the mod.
The changeable borders are definitely possible, but will require require a rewrite of the border system the mod has.
