Currently in the mod there is no way to fully prevent damage caused by planes exploding which for some users inclusing myself is rather annoying as current gamerules that keep mob griefing off do not apply to planes.

If not making planes follow the current in game gamerule for mob griefing maybe adding a custom gamerule for making it so planes dont destroy blocks or harm entities if they were to crash.
This gamerule would be obviously off by default and only toggleable if users wish to have planes be less destructive to their world.

go to the configuration in the mod menu (if you have it installed) and go to the option "Enable Explosion". switch it off, and you're good to go.
