I have the same problem with the Tough as Nails mod, where the two items aren't compatible with other mods. Could you add it so where you can put water into the canteen using something Thermal Expansion's Fluid Transposer or by right-clicking a tank from OpenBlocks?
Or extract water from the rain collector using a servo from Thermal Expansion or Extra Utilities's Fluid Transfer Node?
