Priest specialization "grant barrier" visual is created on allied mobs (i.e. tamed wolves) but doesn't seem to block attacks. Additionally, priest spells give barrier enemy mobs - but just the visual effect, not the actual barrier.
Barrier still works on players though!

(have not tested if it gives a functioning barrier to an enemy player, which could be a little awkward for pvp)
