I've been using this mod since 1.16.5 and I love it. However every version I have used it is smooth as silk except the latest one. It's noticably laggy even when I change the speed.

My apologies, it was another mod I had installed that was limiting the framerate of my GUI. Disabling it has restored the smoothness.
