Seems like it is genneral overlay problem. Since both blocks doing overlays on base block it seems.

It's not just a problem of overlays, but of transparency of modded blocks in general, all modded 3D blocks that have invisible/transparent textures are rendered black.

Same here - mods such as create decor and hexerei provide same issue.

Issue appers also with other mods like Mana And Artifice (flowers) and Forbidden and Arcanus (xpetrified ore and probably something else)

Transpacrency might be inverted. Look:
From top it should be transparent but isn't.

But is transparent from the bottom:

You can also see other transparent block broken from other mod.

Edit: There was wrong screenshot

Is this bug also what makes filled source jars from Ars Noveau appear empty? You can only see the purple liquid from the top and bottom of the filled jars but not the sides. Thankfully, the jars show you numerically how full they are so I never have to guess but I do wish I could see the liquid normally. I'm in 1.16.5, btw.

Could be that, the author of this mod is inactive for like 6-7 months, I suggest you checking Rubidium, another Sodium port.

Thank you for the info. will do just that. Maybe Rubidium will not have this visual bug.
