Well based on that log I can't tell you anything really but what I can see immediately is that version 0.6.17.x is pretty ancient and isn't compatible with JEI version 15.19.5.99. please update to the latest that actually is compatible with latest JEI. If you still get a crash after that I would like to see what it is.

the problem is that... anything above those versions makes minecraft crash with no logs

Alright in that case I would like to see whatever log you can get with the latest version of sophisticated with that version of JEI
