Crafting multiple storage items in 1.21.4 results in only one of the items respecting the materials used (the rest are Spruce)

When crafting multiple Sophisticated Barrels from Pale Oak, only ONE of the resulting Sophisticated Barrels ends up as Pale Oak, the rest are somehow Spruce (even though spruce was not used). I believe this is a bug.
As an aside... is there an easy way (maybe a feature request?) to change materials once a Sophisticated Barrel is created (besides decorator options that are not ever quite the same as a true material change)?
