Describe your issue.

This is very strange. I tested this in a brand new modpack running 1.21 and Fabric Loader 0.16.5 with only the following mods:

  • Distant Horizons 2.2.1-a-1.21.1
  • Fabric API 0.102.0+1.21
  • M.R.U 1.0.2+1.21-fabric
  • Sounds 2.1.0+1.21-fabric

The game opens with no issues, gets partway through the loading screen, then hangs there forever. I don't see any useful information in the logs, and it doesn't crash so there's no crash logs.

I personally tested this with every previous version of Sounds and M.R.U available, some versions had the same problem, other versions actually crashed.

I couldnt reproduce this, and even if I could, I doubt Sounds or MRU has anything to do with this. You likely have an issue with Distant Horizons itself. You should report this issue to the Distant Horizons repository.

It does seem really odd that these would conflict with each other, but I'm unfortunately experiencing the same issue. I will go ahead and file an issue on Distant Horizon's repo if @leftbones didn't, but this definitely seems to be a compatibility issue between Sounds and Distant Horizons on our setups.

Running on a minimum setup for testing, I have the following:

Environment

  • Minecraft 1.21.1
  • Prism Launcher 9.1
  • Fabric Loader 0.16.7
  • Java 21.0.4
  • macOS Sonoma 14.6.1
  • M1 (aarch64)

Mods

  • Distant Horizons 2.2.1-a
  • Fabric API 0.107.0+1.21.1
  • M.R.U. 1.0.4 [release]
  • Sodium 0.6.0-beta.2+mc1.21.1
  • Sounds 2.2.0 [release]

There are no other mods, shaders or resource packs installed.

Behavior

  • Minecraft runs fine with all of the plugins except Distant Horizons enabled (including M.R.U.)
  • Minecraft runs fine with all of the plugins except Sounds enabled.
  • Minecraft freezes at startup if both Distant Horizons and Sounds are enabled.

Logs

https://gist.github.com/ChristinWhite/22f1d3910b6e3c6e025d95de9c2aa2fc

Since it doesn't crash, it just freezes indefinitely (15+ minutes) there is no crash log.

I filed an issue on the Distant Horizon's GitLab repo #858.

I also tried the following troubleshooting steps:

  • Installing Indium (1.0.35+mc1.21).
  • Reverting to the default Distant Horizons config.
  • Switching to Fabric Loader 0.16.9.
  • Switching to the JDK 21.0.3 installed by Prism.

All with identical results.

Okay, the issue is an incompatibility between Distant Horizons and YetAnotherConfigLibrary on macOS, this has been fixed in a DH nightly build that I've confirmed is working. I hadn't realized Sounds was bundling YACL internally.

I'm not sure why I'm not running into the same problem on my full non-testing instance that does include YACL 3.6.1+1.21-fabric, is it possible Sounds is bundling an older version?

@leftbones, assuming you're running on a Mac you might try the nightly release linked in the issue on DH.
