I had a couple of ideas to throw at you.

1. railer able to place non vanilla rails
2. commuter railer (for tunneling. Places redstone torches and powered rails at intervals)
3. tunnel builder (think back to the railcraft tunnel builder thing they had)
4. ability to set coordinates for it to tunnel to
