They say things should be as simple as they should be, but no simpler. Cereal tried to make things a bit too simple, and just ended up making them more complicated instead.

Requiring a third dependency for players and a second mod to rebuild on API changes, Cereal is a bit more overhead (both in terms of development time and performance) than it's worth. In the next minor Stockpile update, it should be removed as a dependency.
