Suggestion: Item insertion with hopper - sorting system

A hopper that was set to insert items into one of connected barrels would distribute its items over all connected barrels. This would allow to ease the construction of a sorting system for a monster grinding tower.
An extracting hopper under one of that connected barrels would take all the "overflow" which was not arrow, gunpowder or bones which were caught in the other connected barrels.
Of course, inserting overflow items would only work when an overflow extracting hopper was present. Otherwise the hopper would not insert items w/o matching barrels and after some time when no stack has matching items any more it must block and stop working.

I certainly like the idea of having some kind of barrel bank / "network" system and still have plans to implement one. Following the rewrite, something like this should be simple to achieve in the next feature release.

Please add this option. This is such a needed enhancement! What would it take to help start this? I use Tech reborn and it has so many items and they really need to be sorted.

Some really impressive add-ons to the same option might be:

  • Network Upgrade option. This would allow you to create a bank of say 10 drawers plus the sorting device. Then you could feed items into the sorting device and it would auto put them into a drawer. If you added a new item it might resort all the drawers to be in AZ order from Left to right or like items, etc. so small piles of dust would stay next to the pile of dust of the same type. oak logs next to oak wood etc.

-A special hopper that searches for the item in the storage network and if it is in it, the hopper would pass the item to the drawer but if not would send it onward in another direction. This would allow you to have different storage networks for different types of goods.

-an upgrade to display the first letter of the name of the item so that you could create alphabetical drawer networks
