Manually using drawers

When manually putting stuff in drawers (have tested with basic and 2x2) the drawer flips to face opposite way, it retains its inventory but i need to wrench it to rotate it back ... then the icon(s) are gone but a single one for the 2x2 drawer (reload game too fix). if i add things thro the controller there is no rotation. doing anything that causes a block update within a certain distance cause the rendering of the item(s) (up to approx 12 blocks away) in the drawers to flicker off then back on (even with controller removed).
I was under the impression that only the controller or slaves would be searching for drawers, and possibly could be fixed by having some way too turn on and off the searching function ... like a redstone signal applied to controller

Does this happen with all drawers, no matter where they are placed in the world? Even if they're isolated far away from any other kind of mod block?
Against a stone wall, if there is a door nearby opening and closing it causes flickering, placing down a chest causes flickering yet opening a chest does not. just put a drawer well away from anything split two items into two separate stacks and put them in one at a time, draw flipped to face other way when second item was placed.
I've got this happening in my world now too. Single player, no machinery or automation running yet. The only "switch" I've got is a pressure plate in the next room for when I enter/exit my base. But again, its manual only when I leave, and the drawer rotation is immediate when I add an item.
For me, this only seems to occur for drawers that are facing North after placement. Other positioned drawers in this room (they're wrapped around the walls of this 13x13 room), work completely fine.
EDIT: Another wrinkle that might mean we look elsewhere. My drawers were created by Storage Drawers - Extra Parts. Specifically out of Ebony wood.
When I use standard wooden drawers, no rotation happens in that same location.
