Direct Tier Upgrading

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.
If I make, say, a tier I chest, and then in future I want a tier II chest, it doesn't appear that there is any way for me to reuse my tier I chest for this purpose. It seems kinda wasteful and I'd consider it a problem unless you don't plan to touch this mod until you've found diamonds.
Describe the solution you'd like
Each tier can be upgraded to the next tier in a smithing table with the material of the next tier.
Describe alternatives you've considered
Instead of a smithing table something like an anvil could work too, but I feel a smithing table makes more sense.
A created an addon for that feature you can add it from here Storage Overhaul Chest Upgrader
Another option could be a shift+right click with the upgradeable material. i.e. shift+right click with a gold ingot on a Tier 1 chest to upgrade it to Tier 2. would be quite a chore to have to empty out all of your chests to upgrade them.
I like your method better actually. Honestly, it makes more sense to have upgrade items with their own recipes that you then use in-world.

I like that even better. Less chance of accidentally upgrading a chest.
Shift + right clicking on the block with a new item added by the mod is the best bet I think. Just like Iron Chests upgrade items.
Love the idea. Is that something you are planning on implementing in the near future? or just spitballing at this point?
Oh, I'm just brainstorming, I don't have the knowledge to even make a pull request to a project like this let alone be a developer on it!
Oh. guess it would help if i actually looked at peoples names. lmao
I don't possess such knowledge either.
Is there any plans to do any change to the different tiers of the chests? or is this mod basically done? I haven't seen any comments or updates in a while. I would love to use this mod as THE storage mod for the pack i'm working on, but the lack of upgrades for the chests is pretty game-breaking, in my opinion. to have to completely empty out a chest in order to place down a larger chest will be a deal breaker for a lot of people.
hopefully an 'upgrade' method can be figured out.
In the meantime, you could retexture and appropriately change Iron Chests chests via KubeJS to make it appear as if it was this mod.
Just an idea.
Also, what's the pack you're working on? Just curious.
