Block puddles should have a chance to drop its full block variance (liquids excluded). Besides feeling strange to dig out tons of sand to have it vanished, it really can save a life in a desert cave (for ex. water purifier)

Extra thoughts: if a block is dripping with a liquid, it should always create a puddle (unless the dripped on block is a cauldron). That includes LAVA. Then, a lava puddle can turn into "cooled lava", creating a quite tough crust, difficult to remove (ca. 65% obsidian mining time). Sounds like big time inventions, but man would that make your mod one of THE best.

Oh and also about the magma block variances - they do damage now as well, but do not emmit light.
