If you are on a server you don't own, you're screwed. In sp, you're screwed, unless you're willing to use commands like /gamemode c

If you are on a server you own, depending on the mods you have, and your playtime since it happened, there may be a backup of your inventory or even entire player lying around. copying items from one file to another is... really tricky... but if you think it's worth it, it can be done.
