Most machines drop a lower tier machine block than they were crafted with, but stranger are machines that drop blocks that aren't involved in their crafting recipes at all:
Higher tier machine casings - Standard machine casing
Advanced Machine Block - Aluminum Machine Hull
LESU block - Machine Block

There may be more, I haven't tested all of the blocks.
