Badlands Biomes Missing Most of Their Splendor

Badlands biomes by and large in Tectonic are positioned above y90, and almost entirely consist of mountain shapes decorated in terracotta. They're rarely ever low enough that their basin floors (under y72 or so) can generate red sand, and do not have the distinctive 'mesa' shape that normal Minecraft terrain evokes. Transitioning to more mesa-like shapes for desert/hot and dry biome mountains would help to add back a lot of what Badlands biomes lose by being relegated only to the tops of the generation area.
Not sure the best way to do this, I'm not the most familiar with Minecraft noise gen sadly. Maybe somehow blending into and out of the sort of standard Minecraft 'mesa like' noise that creates the plateaus (often at y90 or y100) so that the interior of Badlands biomes can be mesa-like but the exterior blends seamlessly?
The terrain shaping at the moment is locked in (bar bug fixes/small tweaks) in order to avoid chunk border issues in existing worlds. This may be revisited if I can find a way to forcefully enable blending (I haven't been successful with this in the past) but for now it's a Won't Fix.
