This may be beyond the scope of this mod, but I think it would be neat nonetheless: what if you could configure the types of observations you gain from the things you scan? As far as I can tell, observations seem to have to do with the kinds of Essentia the thing you scanned had, but I think it would be more interesting if I could, say, grant you Golemancy research in particular if you scan the robotic assembly arms from Pneumaticraft, or ensure that when I'm playing with Thaumic Energistics, I get Energistics research only from objects from or related to Applied Energistics-- and ensure that no other thing I can scan in the game can give me that kind of observation.

A small thing, and it may be tedious to configure, but I think there's merit to the idea of making certain types of observations more or less available than others-- and bringing in the added logic in "okay, if you need this type of observation, these are the kinds of things you need to scan," you know?
