I'd like to put one on my roof facing down, and sideways too if possible.
But perhaps you had your reason not to do so in the first place, I assume perhaps because of the difficulty of making the spinning model inside also rotate correctly?

The animation part should be fine in this case, as it would be a static rotation to the entire block. I think there's just enough metadata space for rotation as well.
