Unable to access *any* container after emptying lunch box in SMP.

This has happened to me twice now, so I'm certain it is the lunch box causing the issue:
Sometimes when I finish off the last piece of food in a lunch box by eating it directly from the lunch box I will then be unable to access the inventory/gui of any handheld item; such as the lunch box, golden bags of holding, backpacks, wireless terminals, Railcraft golden ticket GUIs, etc.. I can't use bows or eat anything either. It's like I'm just no longer allowed to right-click with items that have inventories or GUIs. Tools like wrenches and crowbars still work for me.
The only thing that has fixed it so far is someone else coming in and opening one of these inventories then tossing it back to me. Afterward everything works fine until it happens again.
I originally reported the problem in this forum, which contains more information: http://www.minecraftforum.net/forums/mapping-and-modding/minecraft-mods/mods-discussion/2658296-cant-open-containers-help
The second time it happened to me, however, I knew the cause stems from the lunch box.
I'm on the latest version of Survival Industry which includes The Spice of Life v1.3.0
Sorry about that, not sure what could be causing it. 'Eating' the lunchbox is done in a fairly standard way, so I'm not sure why it'd be any different than eating food not in a lunchbox.
If there's any way that you can find to reliably reproduce this, then that would be a huge help. In the linked thread, you say it hasn't happened to you in single player, which will make it a lot more difficult for me to debug.
It hasn't happened to me yet in singleplayer. I can't say that it won't. My singleplayer worlds are all for testing anyway, and I can definitely try to reproduce it there.
We've now found out that it actually affects everyone. I was the only one on each time it happened, and we tried so many things to fix it the first time that we attributed the solution to the wrong attempt. We can only fix it by restarting the server, not by having someone else try the inventory. It's been a few days and I'm about to go to bed, so my memory is foggy; I'm sure I tried opening a bag after the restart the first time, but maybe I didn't and that's why I thought my friend opening it fixed it. However this definitely didn't fix it the second time as he was also unable to open any inventories when he came on. Only a restart fixed it then.
I spent the day keeping an eye on my lunchboxes (I keep a second in my Better Storage backpack) so as to not reproduce the error. But since I'm about to go to bed I'm gonna run and jump around with this one supreme pizza in my lunchbox and let you know how it goes.
Didn't happen to me this time. Tried again with an epic bacon to no avail. Since it's happened to me twice in two days though, I'm sure it's bound to happen again. I'm a pretty observant person and am aware of the events that surround the problem, so I'll be keeping a close eye on what transpires the next time it happens if it does.
I'll run some tests in my creative worlds to see if I can get it to happen again. Since the mod's been around for two years and you haven't seen anything like it, I'm sure it's either a modpack and/or server issue. I'll let you know if I find anything.
