Steps to Reproduce

  1. Create a new world, enter the Twilight Forest, and go to a swamp biome.
  2. Fly around in creative or spectator, looking at where the fireflies generate, until you spot trees like in the screenshots below.

What You Expected

Fireflies would always generate attached to the tree's trunk.

What Happened Instead

Fireflies can generate attached to vines that generate as part of mangroves. This can make them float, depending on how they generate.
