Minecraft 1.21.8, fabric version 0.17.2, singleplayer, random bone meal flowers

i was asking if this mod only works when the player uses bonemeal only? i want to make an automatic flowers farm but i'm worried that it for any reason won't work and will only get me 2-3 types of flowers instead of plenty.
