make it a option to choose between:
instant death
potion effects
continuous damage
apply a gamestage (from here if anyone wants to do anything else then they can)

Is it a suggestion to simplify it? Because actually, you can already use the CraftTweaker mod to change the behavior of each stage (Dangerous, Emergency and TimeIsUp).
Its use is described on the curseforge page.
