[Feature Request] Add/Merge with Smooth Swapping mod

Hi got this idea:

Smooth Swapping would really fit with this mod's name and goals but it's not receiving proper updates.

Could this mod/similar implementations or some parts of it could be implemented into this mod ?

Because this mod's name is for item Animations, having just one animation for clicking items makes it untrue to its name.

Merging/Creating a fork of this project, in my opinion, a good idea because the project is kinda dying.

It's also available for (Neo)Forge and Fabric with the same codebase using Architectury.

Obviously an agreement with the other mod's devs would be best.

Unfortunately, other mod isn't receiving any updates anymore and the pull request to port it to 1.20.4 hasn't been merged since early january.
Bugs and incompatibilities aren't getting patched either (28 issues).

Merging the mods should solve that problem as the dev teams would be united and could help with these things. This would also make this mod regroup all features to make item management satisfying and Bedrock-like.

It's under the GNU Lesser General Public License so, as long as this mod stays open source you should be able to copy code from Smooth Swapping.

Lol is this mod dead too ?

Hey @Enderteck,

This mod isn't dead - it is actively updated to new versions even when I don't check github.

I've checked out the smooth swapping mod, but it's unlikely for it to be merged into this one, for a few reasons:

  • My time is pretty limited, and TIA has a very simple codebase. Smooth Swapping is way larger and would add a maintenance overhead that I don't want.
  • The Smooth Swapping author might come back to their mod at one point, and it's probably better to keep the mods separated because their goals are different - TIA's goal is to be subtle and easily appreciable by anyone, but Smooth Swapping is a lot more opinionated.
  • I'm not the biggest fan of Smooth Swapping, it's just a matter of personal taste.

TIA itself might have room for growth in the future, but definitely not swapping.
