Tier 2 growth crystal - not watering

tier 2 growth crystal seems to not be acting as a water block when it was working fine previously.
i think it might have happened after i crafted the second one but I'm not sure. either way, neither of the ones i have are acting as a water block anymore. they still boost crop speed though.
just found out the problem is not limited to the growth crystal. an actual water block isn't working either so I'm not sure that tiny progressions is causing it anymore.
