I understand that you lack the motivation to port over the transparent blocks stuff, but would it be possible to add transparency for Mobs and Armor? I'd love to see that.

That would be more effort than adding the blocks as each and every mob renderer would need to be mixed in to.
This would also lower the chances that it will work easily between versions and raise maintenance cost.
